Entry # 5: Earn through Google AdSense

Updated: Sep 2, 2019

Hi everyone!

After our series of blog posts about Affiliate Marketing, we now move on to our second technique on how to earn online which is through Google AdSense. So, what is Google AdSense and how does it work? Google AdSense provides a way for website owners to earn money from their online content. AdSense works by matching text and display ads to your website based on your content and visitors. The ads are created and paid for by advertisers who want to promote their products. This is sometimes also known as pay-per-click and pay-per-view advertising.

I am amazed as to how efficient Google processed my application. I went to their website to sign-up (https://support.google.com/adsense/answer/10162?hl=en) on August 22. I immediately received an email describing the following steps:

1. Create an AdSense account

2. Activate your AdSense account

To activate your AdSense account, complete the following tasks:

Connect your site to AdSense

Enter your payment address details

Verify your phone number

After completing the above steps, I received another email informing me that it is time to activate my account by copying the code, paste it into my website’s html then proceed to the Google AdSense website to confirm that I have done it. After that, I submitted a valid payment address and they verified my phone number.

The following day I received an email informing me that my website is now ready to serve Google AdSense ads. I am just fortunate that I am married to a software developer so all the technical challenges I encountered in completing this process are being thrown to my husband 😊.

Officially on August 26, I saw the Google ad on my website. I’m elated!

I am also amazed on the dashboard being provided by Google to monitor the performance of my ads. It is very detailed and you can clearly see the progress of your ads. As the basis of your earnings are on views and clicks, they can provide a detailed information as to the location and as to what platforms it has been viewed (whether desktop, high-end mobile devices or tablets). They also have this term called “Impressions” which I am still trying to figure out. As of the moment, my websites have been visited already from 8 different countries (Malaysia, Philippines, USA, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore, Germany and Canada). You can see on the dashboard the number of views and clicks per country.

I cannot help but feel a sense of accomplishment though of course the earnings are not yet that substantial (USD 96 cents 😊). Primarily, I have not aggressively marketed the website yet and have just relied on Facebook friends and relatives. I have not completed the “Wishlist” portion yet of the website which also add to my hesitation to market it aggressively since I am still waiting for the approval of the target affiliate programs I would like to join.

For now, I am happy to celebrate my small success as I have completed an online earning opportunity wherein I am most willing to share the know-how to all of you. Feel free to share your thoughts and questions on the comment section of this post.

Stay Wealthy everyone!
